| "1394" refers to IEEE standard 1394. The more commonly recognized name for IEEE 1394 is FireWire.
The 1394 Net Adapter can be used to network computers together, but Ethernet is a more conventional choice.
You can connect two computers together using a FireWire (1394) cable. You can connect more than two computers if you use a FireWire hub.
With all of the USB to Ethernet adapters currently available, I am somewhat surprised that no 1394 to Ethernet adapters are currently being manufactured.
The rumor is that Microsoft is going to drop support for TCP/IP over 1394 in the production release of Microsoft Vista.
FireWire is still a fairly popular interface for external storage devices, camera's, camcorders, etc... |
