Add an External Drive to "Windows Home Server"

Windows Home Server was developed most especially for home users. Microsoft's description reads...

"It's time to brush the digital dust off your captured moments and media—for good. Introducing a simpler, smarter way for families to organize, share and protect photos, videos, music and much more. Windows Home Server brings it all together in a central hub, connecting your home PCs and making it easy to keep and enjoy your family's most important memories. Grandma will love it too."

Adding space to your Windows Home Server is relatively easy. Just follow the steps given below.
  • In order to add an external hard drive you must double-click the Windows Home Server Console icon... hopefully you have that located on your desktop. If not, go to Start -> All Programs and then find it in your list of Applications.

  • Once the Server Console opens up, you will need to click the Server Storage Icon next.

  • Connect the external Hard Drive you’ll be using onto the Home Server. Then, simply follow the Add Disk Wizard. Select all defaults.

Be aware that any data found on the drive you’re adding will be erased because Windows Home Server formats the drive entirely to "NTFS." New Technology File System is the file system that the Windows NT operating system uses for storing and retrieving files on a hard disk.
