Rep Power: 3 | BPL I'm currently using BPL (Broadband over Power Line). I live in the first city in the US to test BPL and it works great. Not quite as fast as DSL and cable (they just increased their speeds) but definitely convenient because I can plug my modem in anywhere in the house. I definitely hope that this technology is approved by the FCC for use everywhere. |

Rep Power: 6 | Sweet! I'm jealous; I've been wanting to test BPL!
What manufacturer and model of BPL modem do you have?
I know IBEC is serving test customers in Arrington, VA, Martinsville, IN and Cullman, AL. |

Rep Power: 3 | I'm not sure about the modem, I'll have to check the box. It was sweet though because the ISP (Comtek) gave me the modem for free. Service is only $30 a month I think (I don't pay the bills). |

Rep Power: 3 | Still going to be a while before we see BPL down under (Australia) however they have just finished testing it over in New Zealand, and the tests were very promising. Hopefully not too long before we get it over here

Rep Power: 3 | Yeah the technology works great and will bring easy, cheap broadband access to almost everyone. The only downside is the interference on the radio spectrum, HAM radio owners have whined about it so much. Even my cordless phone has minor interference now, but I think it's worth it. |

Rep Power: 6 | Hmmm... interesting.
Is the interference radiating through the air, or does it get in via the power to the device?
I mean, will placing a power line filter on your cordless phone clear up the problem? |

Rep Power: 3 | Wow! Ive never heard of this technology, it sounds really awsome though. I have cable and I love it. This sounds pretty promising though. Thanks for informing me.

I think the interference is just static from the signal running through the lines (I have no idea how that occurs), but I could be wrong. I just know there was absolutely no interference before, so its definitely the BPL. The interference is minor for my cordless, just some little pops and crackles that can occur normally on a cell phone for example. |
