Broadband Internet Penetration

Where can I find good statistics for broadband Internet penetration?

I would like to find statistics by state and by country. It would be even better if the statistics were broken down by into urban, suburban, and rural categories.

I would also like statistics for what type of broadband is used -- cable, DSL, or satellite broadband.

Thanks!

Laura

Most broadband Internet penetration statistics are created by Neilsen/NetRatings, the Pew Internet and American Life Project, or the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.

Broadband statistics by country are available from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.

Pew has a report on this, titled Rural Broadband Internet Use.

The OECD's overall estimates are:
o DSL: 62%
o Cable modem: 31%
o Other technologies (e.g. satellite, fibre and fixed wireless) : 7%
The OECD also breaks this data down by country here.
