DLink DSL 500T

Does anyone have a DLink DSL 500T?

How reliable is it? How easy to use is it? Does it have any nifty features that set it apart from the competition? How does it stack up to a comparable LinkSys? What is the comparable model from LinkSys?

The DLink DSL 500T looks like a decent box, although I do not own one. I'm on cable broadband, not DSL.

Look at How to setup WEP for Your D-Link Wireless network to get an idea of how easy to use the DLink interface is.

The DSL-500T supports all of the usual features, such as NAT, VPN passthough, virtual server mapping, etc...

The most special feature of the DSL 500T is it's upgradeable firmware.

I've been buying LinkSys devices for a long time, but DLink and LinkSys appear to be very similar in terms of quality and price.

The comparable LinkSys model is the EtherFast Cable/DSL Router.

My initial areas of concern with the DSL 500T are that it does not include built-in Wi-Fi support or a built-in ethernet switch. I almost always want one or both of those features.

I would like to have more Ethernet ports. What DSL router would you recommend for that?

From DLink, that would be the DSL-504T. The comparable LinkSys model is the BEFSR41 EtherFast Cable/DSL Router with 4-Port Switch.

Either device should work well for you!

I have a D-Link wireless router with 4 ethernet ports and it has a problem, i'm not sure which model it is, i'll check when i'm at home again.

The problem is it caches dns and the cache fills up, then it can't resolve domains anymore, the way of getting around it is to manually assign the dns servers of your ISP to clients using DHCP or manually enter it when configuring the client with a static address. It works fine if you do that but it's a bit annoying to have to do that.

That's a bug from 2004, so it might be fixed with a firmware upgrade.
