Dns 4.2.2.1

I have seen in many places that they use 4.2.2.1 as DNS.

What's the significance of this ip ? Is this something like loopback adapter ip 127.0.0.1 ?

please infrom in details and in easy language :p

4.2.2.1 is a DNS server which has been on the Internet for a long time. It allows public DNS lookups.

We use it because it's easy to remember.

I usually use 4.2.2.1 because it's easier to type. 4.2.2.1 is the primary DNS server and 4.2.2.2 is the backup.

Ownership of these name servers has gone through many layers of mergers and acquisitions over the years; they are now owned by Level 3 Communications.
