Help with remote desktop

Hello,

I wanted to use the Windows XP remote desktop inside my college lan and it is not allowing me to connect to the machines whose IP I specify.

It is saying some connection refused. Having browsed online I found that the user accounts should be added to a particular group. Could someone tell me in a simple way about how to get this thing done?

John

Why don't you try VNC Server which is free to use.

There are some variants like Tight VNC and others.

Try them out instead of making the inbuilt remote desktop work.

VNC server is too good.

Connection refused seems more like a network problem. Windows Remote Desktop uses RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol), which runs on port 3389.

Is port 3389 allowed from your source machine to your destination machine?

I have tried VNC server at my home and connected to a friend of mine.

It's really nice and simple to work with.

Cool software ... and it was free!!!

Thanks again.

Are these progams insecure?

I imagine allowing remote access to your PC will always cause vulnerabilities?

I tried to use VNC Server but could not succeed.

I was looking for some other simple utlities, just one click process....

I think they might not be secure.

I dont think any one click solution would be secure.
I would be wary of anything thats "too easy" to use.
