Lightbulb how to message in a LAN

hello friends,
I use windows XP platform. Is there any way to send messages[may be pop-up msgs] to a machine connected in LAN,assuming both are clients i need to do this without using a software for that purpose. Is there any commands in MS-DOS?

Hey Deepan,

You should be able to use most IM programs like AIM or MSN or YPN to send messages to one another. Each of you will need to agree to accept messages from each other but other than that... it would be just as if you were sending messages across the internet!

there are plenty of programs for this I believe. Just google for LAN messangers or something similar. I am assuming you are running Windows, so I won't go into the linux way(really easy).

Net send

The thing about the Net Send command to remember is that messeging must be running while you use this command.

I don't know why it's so hard for you. The netsend is the best way to chat, if you have only 2 computers in your lan, this will be very easy, and you don't need to watch the tutorial, what VAIO showed you. Just open notepad and write net send * yourmessage - Then save the file as (anything).bat. After that click the file and it will send to every computer, which is connected in the LAN a message, which have the message, which you have written.

ahh , net send is the basic one. but most probly there is a problem. win xp sp2 by default closes this service i mean net send for securing from some vulnerabilities.
