Netgear Routers

I have a netgear router which I am quite happy with, though sometimes it drops my internet connection out for no reason.

I was thinking of trying a D-Link router out but am a bit iffy on their reputation.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

I am quite happy with my LinkSys -- but it does seem to work better if you reset it every few weeks. ops:

Why do routers require resets?

I have to do the same thing to my D Link router (and they aint that great).
Sometimes it doesnt even issue an IP address and i need to reset it right after turning the computer on :?

On the LinkSys, I suspect a memory leak.

What do you mean a memory leak?
Im very interested in finding out more about how that would effect a router.

When programmers write code (in some languages) they must allocate memory to store data, such as variables and arrays.

Programmers are then supposed to free memory when they are done with it. Sometimes bugs creep into the code where a programmer forgets to unallocate memory.

Over time, the program uses more and more memory and the system running the program becomes slower and slower. Eventually, everything fails.

That seems to be the issue with my (otherwise happy) little LinkSys.

The router is hardware which runs software, just like your computer. That software is written just like the software which runs on any other computer.

Heck, most of these little devices run some form of Linux, and C/C++ makes it very easy to create memory leaks.
