QoS questions

would like to know some information regarding QoS:

1- networking technologies that dont provide QoS

2- adaptation technologies that have been develop to offer QoS on top of non QoS infrastructures.(not sure if MPLS and TCP/IP are examples of these adaptation technologies)

3- are ATM and RSVP technologies that provide QoS

Regards

Well, you are closer than when you were posting as "jeanne".

ATM is a technology which provides QoS. QoS was one of the major design goals of ATM.

RSVP, in a different way, is also a technology which provides QoS. RSVP is used to manage QoS in VoIP networks.

You can use classic TCP/IP as a network technology that doesn't provide QoS.

But, of course, TCP/IP has had numerous adaption technologies layered upon it to provide QoS funtionality. These include numerous queuing algorithms, traffic shaping, and rate limiting.

Thanks Will

I was reading about TCP/IP it has suffered changes to make it comply with QoS. but cant really grasp how MPLS works as a infrastructure for QoS.
Also in answer to question 1 i think i Bluetooth, Ir and Ehernet are networking technologies that cont support QoS. im am right? javascript:emoticon('')
Very Happy

thanks in advance

p.s nice tracking of ip javascript:emoticon('')
Smile
