Question - How do I use/reconfigure my wireless router as an access point.

I am trying to extend to range of my network the cheapest way before I go and buy an access point. Here's my current issue:

I am living in a 2 story house, and I live downstairs. Though I have bought a new router (RangeMax™ Next Wireless Router WNR834B) and only using a wireless "G" adapter I have another adapter coming this week the "N" serious (RangeMax™ Next Wireless Notebook Adapter WN511B) that kinda goes with this router and should get me a better connection and range. So needless to say I have a really low connection on the wireless side. Until then I am still "wired" downstairs. **

So my issue is or question I am dealing with either to purchase a wireless access point/extender, or to use/reconfigure my old router to be used as a wireless access point.**

Does anyone know how to do this? I am using a Wireless-G Router WRK54G and according to their website all of their routers have the ability to be reconfigured to be used as an access point. I just need to know 1. How to hook it up, and 2. How to configure the Linksys router to work in that manor.

I have almost NO network knowledge or experience so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have done VERY extensive research on the net on this issue, with little success. I think I can do it (with help from 3 different pages off 3 different sites), but would like someone to guide me if at all possible.

Windows netwoks are a pain in the you know what. One of the nicest thinks about a Mac is that you can set up a network in around 5 minutes and it works flawlessly! Why windows can't figure out a way to do this is beyond me

I think it will be good if u use a pc as access point which would be connected to the router(router's o/p) which has Internet connection as input(wired).

The other pcs would connect to this wlan router via wireless interface & would be able to connect to internet.

Now the router would be configured by that pc to which it's connected by wire... dialing rules, username, and password. Every router has it's own webserver..check the manual..when u enter a IP like 192.168.xx.xx (given in manual of router) it asks fro login & alls ettings cane be changed there.. DHCP server on the router should be enabled to distribute internet connection...
