Router problem

I have a cable connection and everyday I need to reset my router at least once a day as the connection drops out.

What would cause this type of problem?

It's very frustrating

I would guess that your router is bad.

What brand and model is it?

Have you upgraded the firmware on it recently?

If a firmware upgrade doesn't fix the problem, and it's not under warranty, it may be time for a replacement.

Re: Router problems

I had about the same problems as well, and came to find out that the firewall in the router and the firewall in the cable modem were conflicting one another.

You need to call the router customer service or they may have a chat box on a website of their company that you can chat with a tech support rep there.

Tell them what the problem is and they can guide through the process of disabling the firewall in your router.

*Remember you only need the firewall in your cable modem to be safe*
Hope this helps!

I think most routers don't come with a firewall by default anyway, not the cheaper ones.

I'm not sure if Rob was running a software firewall either. Is there anything else that can cause these problems?

Even my super-cheap LinkSys WAP (Wireless Access Point) came with a (lame) router and pretty good firewall built in.

We were having a similar problem over here, losing connection several times a day. Finally upgraded the firmware and it's working again. Now if only our cable company didn't suck so bad.

The symptom of a router dropping a connection once a day does not mean it is bad.

It could be a number of things. Is it losing connection to your modem? is it losing connection to the network?

Often times this can be a firmware issue, and sometimes the latest firmware is not always the best answer.

What kind of router is it, and do you have dsl or cable and if so what kind of modem?

I know I have had this same problem with my netgear router and cable internet.
I have not tested if the network drops out though, but I should as that will tell me if its the router or modem playing up.
