Vista - Change mac address on comp or router?

i recently got banned of a online game(server) for swearing at them . they banned and i want to play on the server without them knowing i saw the other thread and copied the template.
1. Change the MAC address on your Network Interface Card (NIC).[ I dont know which one do i have to do]
-or-
2. Change the MAC address on your router. [i dont know whcih one do i have to do.

If 1, what Operating System are you running?Vista 32 bit

If 2, what brand and model of router do you have? Netgear WGR614v4

i have tried to change it with many programs including Technitium MAC Address Changer v5, macmakeup195d and a few more including fiddling with the regedt stuff yet it didn't work.
it says "mac has been changed" but when i type in getmac in cmd it goes back to the old mac. im not sure if i have to change the router mac or something. if i do can someone please explain it.
Thanks very much.

You can't change a MAC address. It's a hardware identifier, which consists of manufacutrer model and unique ID. For example

1A2A1B1C2C3C

1A2A might be the manufacturer. 1B might be the model and 1C2C3C might be the unique ID. It's a serial code of sorts... You can mask it with a fake one but you can't physically change it.

They will have IP banned you anyway. Use a proxy or IP hider. Although both of these can actually be detected and may result in more banning. Either that or phone your ISP and ask for a new one (although they might get suspicious about why).

A proxy would be too slow to game. The only choice would be to get a new IP from your ISP, as mentioned.

That depends entirely on the proxy server.

Yes, true, but I still doubt the fastest free proxy would do it, although it would depend on the game as well. I have tried many proxies, but for other purposes.

jayne is exactly correct. a MAC address is a hardware identifier. i cant be changed. only way to get around it, would to be use a differant way to connect to the internet. by either using a different network card, or a different wireless card.
