What is WI-MAX?

What exactly is WI-MAX?

I see it listed in this forum but I am not aware of this technology, I assume its a new sort of wireless standard?

WiMAX is a standards-based wireless technology that provides high-throughput broadband connections over long distances. WiMAX can be used for a number of applications, including "last mile" broadband connections, hotspots and cellular backhaul, and high-speed enterprise connectivity for business.

Thanks for the explanation
So is this "the best" wireless connection you can get?
I'm not aware of any places I know using Wi-Max, i guess it will be implemented more in future though.

I wouldnt say its the best, its just the new kid on the block so everyone assumes its the greatist thing, but only time will really tell. I know a couple places in seattle with, but have not had the oppertunity to test it myself. will update once I do
