Caller Id Phantom????

Ok heres my situation and this has been going on for a long time (yrs)...I have a Pac Bell caller ID box .....in my apt I have three phones all are hard wired -none are connected to anything but an answering machine on one end....no PC connects to any phone lines at all.all wires and cables are in great shape or new and connected securely and correctly!

Every few days ...normally in the late evening early am my caller id light will go on for about 2-3 seconds....like someone has picked up an extension somewhere in my small apartment....then it goes off!
well i can see all 3 phones from my desk where the id box is located......i have not kicked or moved wires or anything related when this happens....and when i pick up the reciever theres just your ole dial tone!!!

Its actually starting to drive me mad....do I have faulty equipment????....over zealous imagination???....or is my house haunted or lastly could this be a sign of someone accessing my line illeagally??(remember this is an apartment complex! (with common elect, gas, phone boxes)

any ideas are greatly appreciated...

and sorry for the novel here!lol

That is odd.

If it was someone "borrowing" your phone line, you would notice it by picking up the phone. The event would certainly last longer than 1-2 seconds.

Have you tried calling your telephone company and asking for a list of all of your incoming calls? Tell 'em you're getting prank calls.

I would recommend getting your outgoing call logs. You may also want to install a in-use light on you POTS line then you would know if someone is tapping onto your line. Like Will stated 'the calls would certainly last longer than 1-2 seconds.' You may also want to replace your caller id box as I've seen them do funky things..
