Satellite Internet can provide a great deal of bandwidth, but it will always be limited by latency issues.
This is particularly true because most satellite Internet services are provided over
geostationary satellites. Those satellites are approximately 22,300 miles above the equator -- and the speed of light is only so fast!
Satellite Internet is great because it can serve areas not served by Cable or DSL.
Last year, I was able to work on a team deploying satellite Internet to Colombia and Canada, and with teams deploying to Mexico, France, Malaysia, and Wisconsin.
If you can't get DSL or cable Internet, satellite Internet is much better than dialup!
