Are there even enough hours in the day for us to watch 900 channels? Why do we need to hear the same songs that people are listening to clear across the country. Some people just enjoy the luxury of being able to watch what they want, whenever they want to and vice versa in regards to music.

Satellite Internet is slower than DSL and Cable, is that correct?

I hear it is also prone to drop outs due to obstruction/interference with the satellites?

Satellite Internet can provide a great deal of bandwidth, but it will always be limited by latency issues.

This is particularly true because most satellite Internet services are provided over geostationary satellites. Those satellites are approximately 22,300 miles above the equator -- and the speed of light is only so fast!

Satellite Internet is great because it can serve areas not served by Cable or DSL.

Last year, I was able to work on a team deploying satellite Internet to Colombia and Canada, and with teams deploying to Mexico, France, Malaysia, and Wisconsin.

If you can't get DSL or cable Internet, satellite Internet is much better than dialup!

I work for major OIl service provider in West Africa. Have Multiple T1 SCPC's over Satellite back to Aberdeen and Houston TX. We use these for the Corporate Network, INET connection and I have 32 telephone trunks that support 750 DID lines. This provides communications for the OIl Camp. All transmitting and receiving on PAS 1R. I probably have better service in the middle of the jungle than alot of households in the US.

PS. Direc WAY by Hughes is a pretty good INET Home Satellite system connection if you live in a Rural area and can only receive dialup.

That sounds very cool!

I'm stuck in the U.S. right now, but I just volunteered for a tour of Malaysia.

How is Africa to work in?
