Why do Satellite Modems Have Scrambling?
I don't think it is for security purposes. I also don't think is like reed Solomon Coding. I also know that is is specific to Modem Manufacturers.

Which scrambling are you referring to?

The ViaSat Surfbeam satellite modems I've been working with are DOCSIS-compliant, so they look and act a lot like cable modems.
