Technically (?) I couldn't tell you the difference! But it does seem like Intel products end up in everything! However, my bro use to work for AMD and spoke very highly of their products.

Anyone else??

Technically there is alot different

Intel were way ahead a few years ago but AMD have caught up somewhat with the 64 processor.

Still, I prefer Intel by far. They are the leaders in the field, their CPU's are well built and although more expensive, are well worth it.

AMD Athlon and Athlon XP are the way to go. Intel just has better marketing and buddies in Microsoft and Dell.

Exclamation

This is an interesting poll, thanks!

Back when AMD first came out I remember researching it and it was not recommended, so I've avoided it like the plague ever since when purchasing a computer.

It is good to revisit these kinds of reviews from time to time to stay abreast for future purchase decisions.

So now, what's the consensus??

Well now AMD are highly recommended, particularly the Athlon64.
I still like Intel better though alot of people will swear AMD are ahead now.. its all opinion.
They both do the same thing in the end.

It's like VHS vs Beta if you ask me.. in many respects AMD might be the better choice (depending on the application) but Intel has the marketing.. which one will win out? (I currently have Intel Inside )

I haven't heard much about AMD, the only thing I see these days are "Intel Inside". Intel has always been good to me, so I'd have to say Intel, but I'm not sure if I've even used AMD before, so I'm making my decision with only having knowledge on one of the subjects.

i like Intel because i 've been using it for a long time and i m comfortable with it. I've used AMD before but i didn't see anything special so did not bother to switch

Thumbs up Intel Wins

I am also Intel fan as my PCs until now are only with Intel Processeors. And i have never experienced the problems which my friend's AMD's make. That's why i think AMD is still back in the class. Also the fact that most of the big servers use Intel Processors talks much and there is almost no difference in the prices of a new Intel and AMD processor,so I don't see any deal in buying an AMD.

Intel is the worst type of CPU you can buy. They are full of bugs, especially the P4. Jake is right, people only know of intel because of the deals they make and mass advertising. Intels aren't very good at all. AMD CPUs run a lot better, can handle more and are cheaper. I dont see why anyone would go intel. Intel even backed out of the battle that AMD proposed to them. How cheap is that? : /

the differances

ok intel has faster processor speeds than AMD, but AMD has faster bus speeds.

here is how i look at it.

on intel you can process at lets say, 3.8 GHz but you can only pipe the information at 800MHz. in lamons terms this means, you put the informatin in slow, process it lightning fast and then pump the information out slow again.

on AMD64 you can process at lets say, 2.8 GHz but you can pipe the information at 2000MHz. in lamons terms this means, you put the information in lightning fast, process it fairly fast and then pump the information out lightning fast again.

now keep in mind i am partial to AMD, but i hope i could break this down as simple as possible and as fair as possible. correct me if you see it any differant.
