| The fact that the Multimedia device was attempted to be loaded under "other devices" means that those drivers didn't load properly. The problem is that your sound drivers have not been loaded.
Now that we know what the problem IS, how do we fix it?
First, is your sound card built into your MB or is it a separate card?
If it is a separate card, depending on the manufacturer, they may want you to load the drivers BEFORE you install the card. I'm gathering from your post, and I may be wrong, that you just reformatted your macine and didn't remove or rearrange anything inside. If that's true, you probably need to follow these steps:
1 - Go into your device manager and remove the error. Highlight and then hit delete. Don't restart, SHUT DOWN.
2 - Open your case and remove the Sound Card.
3 - Power on your machine and install the sound drivers.
4 - Turn off the machine and install the sound card.
5 - Turn on the machine and windows will "find" the new card and load the drivers for it.
That SHOULD do it. Unless of course it's scenario #2 and your particular card needs to be installed in reverse... Card FIRST and then Software. But I find that hard to believe if you are having trouble after just a simple reformat.
ONE OTHER THING... Do you HAVE the drivers for the Sound Card? Don't always rely on Windows to find the correct ones. If you don't, you can most likely download them from Drivers.com or from the manufacturer's website. Install them as you would from a disk.
Let us know how it proceeds... we're all curious.
