Blade Servers

Blade servers are a really hot technology right now.

Blade servers give medium and large organizations more computing power with less initial cost and less total cost of ownership (TCO).

In addition, blade servers conserve both power and datacenter space.

All four of the top hardware vendors are shipping blade servers:

Hewlett-Packard: HP BladeSystem
IBM: BladeCenter
Dell: PowerEdge Blade Servers
Sun: Sun Blade

What do you think? Are you seeing these servers make a difference in your work environments yet?

I want one for home.

I assume these are only really necessary for high end environments, and not much use for the regular home user?

Exactly. They are only useful if you can justify at least four PC's in one unit.

Homes with four or more PC's usually have them spread around the house.

I have 3 at home.. haha. Well I guess I am a geek...
Actually I do have 4!

2 PC's and 2 laptops.. all networked, but i still dont see a need for a server at home.

Some day soon, you will be able to copy all of your DVD's onto a media server and watch them from any network-equipped television in your house.
