I am currently in a dilema. I am testing a game that is very intensive on my current system. The problem is the game will not be released for probably 6-9 more months. Right now it is really straining my system and I am having to settle for subpar graphics.
Right now I have a ABit KV7 motherboard, 1 gig of ram and 3000+ AMD processor as well as a 9800XT.
My problem is I can't really piece-meal upgrade any of it without just throwing the money away. IE I could upgrade the video card but I want to build a new system eventually and I would unlikely be using AGP at the time.
So any basic thoughts for any minor tweaks I can make? I can't justify putting together an entire new system now, because it will be so much cheaper in 9 months.
I really can't imagine anything to upgrade the hardware. You could always close down everything that isn't core windows to squeak out the last of your RAM. Donno if you already did that ...
Is there a mobo that will take your processor and also offers SLI or Crossfire? Its probably worth waiting until you can afford one of those options instead of getting a single AGP card?

What about a PCI Express video card?
How good are they compared to AGP?
They transmit data faster, but I think his motherboard doesn't have PCI Express slots. That's why he's saying he might just go buy a new computer, because there are very few upgrades he could make to his current hardware.
In that case if there are no upgrades available - the answer is simply to purchase new hardware
Even low end motherboards these days have just about all the features you need, with options of PCI Express graphics cards - You can get unreal performance for under $500.
