Building a PC- budget $2000

Ok I need some advice people!

I want to build a new PC soon, with a budget of $2000.

I will be playing some new games so need a decent video card but nothing too over the top.
Also need quite a bit of hard drive space.

Feel free to throw your suggestions at me for components

I posted a topic regarding a PC a couple weeks ago I guess. It has a list in there. Right now it's still being changed some but is around 1600 atm. Will post a link to it here when I get the chance(just search for New Comp List). Kinda short on time right now(lunch break). Hope it helps!

okay this is modfied, missing case/pws with cooling system, because the case is a visual thing, and some cases come with power supplies, and its hard to pick a good cooling setup without know what the case is, and there is no monitor, but here is the heart of the PC, very nice gaming system for a total of $870
*prices are links*

CPU/Motherboard - $400

Ultra 2048MB PC3200 DDR 400MHz Memory (2 x 1024MB) - $200 -less $50RB

Western Digital / Caviar SE / 250GB / 7200 / 8MB / ATA-100 / EIDE / OEM / Hard Drive -$85

CD/DVD all in one litescribe - $50

XFX GeForce 6800 Xtreme / 256MB GDDR3 / SLI / PCI Express / Dual DVI / HDTV / Video Card -$135 -less $35

---------------
Now if you need/want a new monitor:

Hanns·G HW191D / 19" / 5ms / 700:1 / WXGA 1440 x 900 / DVI / Widescreen LCD Monitor - $219

--------------
as for anything else, case, power supply (go with 450+) fans/cooling cables or anything, you can look on tigerdirect or on egghead.

Personally, if I were you, I wouldn't spend that much money on your comp. Computer technology changes so rapidly - I don't think I've used the same computer for more than three years. If I were you, I'd just buy a dell

Dimension E310 Media Center PC
Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor 521 w/HT Technology (2.8GHz,800FSB)
Genuine Windows® XP Media Center Edition 2005
1GB2 Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz -2DIMMs
Single Drive: 48x CD-RW / DVD-ROM Combo Drive
http://www.dell.com/content/topics/s...=19&l=en&s=dhs

$499
Includes 17" flat panel
After $340 Off Instantly!

Customize and pay the $24 to upgrade for 80GB SATA to 160 SATA

Just buy a system like this, and then get a kick-ass video card for $150 and you'll have a decent system for $675. With the money you have leftover, you can buy another new system in a a few years.

It's nice to have the 1-year Dell support in case anything should go wrong with your computer

I used to build my own computers, but I found that it's almost the same amount of money to buy from Dell - and the best thing is, their computers run quiet (they don't sound like the jet engines I used to build myself )

I'd have to agree with you there kenwilly. Foxy, unless you have a special need for something so expensive, you might think about getting what works and saving the rest cuz in 3 - 6 months there will be something faster or better on the market.

Hey Oul,

We'er on a shared right now because we're not eating up that much space or bandwidth. Once the site gets bigger... and bigger... we'll probably have to go dedicated to avoid down time or any other variety of interuptions.

Let me know if you're still not getting emails. There were some issues with the server last night that might have killed whatever should have gone out yesterday.
