CD burner

Recently I bought a CD burner from Sony. Do you think it was on me to take a Sony burner. I heard TDK is good but I wasnt able to locate it in any of the shops near. They say Sony gives tray problems and now I'm worried.

I have been using a Sony burner since three years and not a single issue with it. Its one of the best and I can say Samsung drives are the worst. What do you have to say about it guys?

I've never used a Samsung drive.

I prefer LiteOn or Pioneer burners. I have owned both and have never had a problem with either.

My Sony DVD+R/DVD-R was the worst DVD drive I have ever purchased. It's media support was horrible. The only DVD's it would burn reliably were Sony's.

I went through 4 driver upgrades for the drive before I threw it into a Linux box and left it to die.

My NEC - ND2510A is the exact opposite story. It worked perfectly from the first DVD to the last.

Well DVD burners are pretty new maybe that was your problem.

To the first guy, I was sick of buying CD burners (2 broke, 1 a Philips and the other some generic piece). Bought a Sony, been working (almost) perfectly for about a year. The only wierd thing is that sometimes my computer won't detect it, so I have to open the computer and unplug the burner and start up without it and then plug it back in and start up again. Nobody else has had that problem though.

Samsung drives were used the in the original Xbox. All of the Xbox's drives were notorious for dying after about 2 years (literally thousands of complaints). I'll never buy a Samsung drive for this reason.

I have a Pioneer single layer DVD burner. They make dual layers very cheap now though.

Pioneer are very reliable drives, never had an issue with it.

I stay away from ALL Sony products.

LG all the way! Have never had a problem with one (We sell LG DVD burners, combo drives, cd burners and cd-roms) and in the hundreds of drives we've sold have not had a single one returned for warranty!

Ya , .. I use samsung writer.. and its the same problem with it.... there is one way to adjust with that problem.. incert a cd in the writer it self.. I mean .. there should be some or other cd in the drive.. if the drive is empty the tray does not come out...

Plextor is the best around for such cd/dvd writers... but sometimes it also matters on the media u use for it..... don't try and save up on poor media because that never helps!

That's another reason I like my NEC -- it works with all of the ultra-cheap media that I feed it.
