CD-RW drive problems

On an older computer, sometimes the CD-RW drive does not recognize disks that I insert. It sometimes reads the disks, and other times it will say that no disc is in the drive. Any suggestions to solve this problem?

Make sure the disc is not scratched. Otherwise you can try to clean out the drive with compressed air (to remove the dust) if you still have problems.

My disks are in good condition, I've checked them. I have tried a variety of old and new disks and still have the varying results of not being able to read the CD all of the time.

I would try spinning a cleaning CD through the drive.

I will try the cleaning CD, hope it works. I think that maybe the drive is just very old and worn out from a lot of use, so that is why it has trouble recognizing discs.

Often times very old CD drives sometimes stop working due to mechanical failure. Your best bet would be to get a newer drive and see if it works.

The drive is probably very old then, if cleaning does not help it.

You can try a cleaning CD or using compressed air to blow out all the dust.
