Okay, we know all the other stuff. Now, let's go to something a little more simplistic, but rather important, topic like Computer Maintenance. If you don't maintain your computer, you're just looking for problems. Listed below are just a small portion of what is necessary to maintain your computer, so I will need you all to add to the list. Let's see what you know!
1. Check for viruses on a regularly scheduled basis.
2. Check for spyware/adware on a regular basis.
3. Make certain the amount of disc spaced used for temp files is set no higher than 60. You can do this under internet options in control panel.
4. If you don't have a built-in pop-up blocker, install an independent program and USE it.
5. Remove Windows Messenger and any other unnecessary programs for your add/remove in control panel. I posted another instruction for permanently removal of Messenger, so look that up in these forums.
6. Disabale any services that are running that you don't need.
7. Password-protect your computer in all respects. This also means your main screen.
8. Use the "msconfig" command to uncheck startup programs.
9. Do a ScanDisk and also Defrag on a regular basis.
10. Check your security settings and make certain they're at the default setting unless otherwise preferred.
11. Run programs like Windows Washer by Webroot and EZ Clean by ToniArts on a regular basis. Windows Washer has a free trial, but then I think it's somewhere around $30.00, but it's worth it. EZ Clean is a free download.
Okay, that's all I have time for right now. If you have any questions on how to do any of the above, please post.
