A sound card is an expansion card which you plug into your computer for the purpose of generating sound from analog or digital formats stored on or generated by the computer.
Most motherboards now have "sound cards" built on-board, which can save an expansion slot.

Currently, the top-end sound card is probably the
Creative Sound Blaster X-fi Elite Pro.
The X-fi Elite Pro is about 25 times as expensive as the lowest-end PC sound cards, such as the
Diablotek Crystal Relitic 4.1 Channel PCI Sound Card.
