Detachable Speakers

I have detachable speakers set up on my desk. The problem is, the speakers always wind up tangled up or knocked over. Are they really any better than the speakers that come attached to the monitor?

Theoretically, speakers placed further apart will sound more realistic.

I dunno. People spend enormous amounts of money on audio equipment, and I personally can't tell the different between a $300 system and a $3,000 system.

Well ... the speakers on the monitor probably sound horrible just due to their quality. I'm just assuming, maybe they sound fine to you, so go for it. Otherwise, they are probably going to sound like laptop speakers and have no bass. If the detachables don't sound much better, then just do what you feel like I guess.

You need your ears checked then :P

$3000 systems for a computer are a waste. I don't even think they make that kind of stuff for PC's.

Home audio on the other hand, you would have a booming system if you spent $3000

You can spend less than $100 on computer speakers and it sounds professional. Spend that on home audio though and the sound is horrible.
Computers put out less power than a home system, but the sound is more compact, meaning cheaper speakers can be used.

You can buy a Creative 5.1 speaker system for like $80.

I suggest you get something like this and make sure you have a decent sound card and it will sound really good for really cheap, this is what I did and I can't be happier.

One of my more intense friends just bought a subwoofer that cost him almost $3,000.

He's going to need a bigger living room.

You might try headphones instead of speakers. I'm not sure if they've invented cordless speakers yet, but if they have, that'd be another option

My dad got some awesome speakers for his computer a few years ago, and they attach to the side of the monitor so they aren't always in the way. I could TOTALLY tell the difference.
