Intel at 3.5GHZ

I read this article today
http://www.tgdaily.com/2006/06/01/in..._demonstrated/

The Intel Core 2 Extreme was demo'd at 3.5Ghz!
Thats extremely fast, it will be interesting to see if they role these out.

To be honest anything over 2Ghz you will never notice on anything below 1000Mhz FSB, like most systems home user have (the comman user) they only have a range of 555mhz to 800mhz, and with that low FSB and with out L2 cache, you will never notice the differance between 2.0 and 3.0, let alone 3.5 for that matter. The only way to really see the spead is if your 3.2Ghz Proc. wich is enabled with 1600Mhz FSB is on a board that can handle that FSB, as if its only at 800, then whats the point, the Proc. will only work as fast as the MotherBoard can handle. Thats just like when people go out and buy 2GB Mem for there PC that has a Intel Pentium 2.1Ghz with 555 FSB, you would have the same Mem performance of 1GB as you would 2GB. Sorry to rant on you, but I was just explaining this to a friend of mine complaing to me that his new 3.2 system was hardly faster than his old 2.4.

agree

yeah i have to agree with OULZAC. you really wont be able to see a differance unless you have the FSB to back it up. that is why AMD is number one in my book is they have the 1600, and the 2000 fsb. now if intel combined that 3.5 with somthnig that could run at 2500 fsb, and made a board to support it then that would be sick.

here is is broken down simply.
3.5 GHz processor with an 800 MHz FSB. you are able to process the information inside of the processor at 3.5 GHz, but you can only get it in and out at 800 MHz. so while the information spends almost no time inside of the processor because it is so fast, it all bottle necks getting in and out of the processor.

2.5 GHz processor with a 2000 MHz FSB. you process the information at 2.5 GHz inside of the processor at 2.5 GHz, but you can get it in and out at 2000 MHz. so while the core speed is slower and the information sits longer inside of the processor, there is no bottle neck. the information is able to flow between the processor and the motherboard with almost no restriction. making a faster system.

that is about as basic and simple as i can put it in a nut shell.

think of it in terms of driving your car around town. you have to slow down for turns, and stop for red lights. how much faster gould you drive across town if you didnt have any red lights to stop for, how much faster would it be if the road was strait from point a to point b. the red light and turns are what cause your (latency) to become greater. is dosent matter how fast of a car you have, you can speed down the road extreemly fast, but you still have to stop for the red lights, and slow for sharp turns.

intel basicaly has a fast car that can speed soen the road at high speeds breaking all speed limit signs, but has a lot of stop sighs, red lights, and a windy and sharp twisting road to get it there, so even though their car is super fast, they have to slow down a lot for all that stuff in the middle.

well AMD said we dont need a car as fast, we dont need a Ferrari, well just use a covette. and build a new road that has no stop signs, no red lights, and no turns. it will be a strait line road. 10 lanes wide.

thats why AMD is faster.

Perfect analoygy (SP?) I could not have said it better myself. Thats why when I bought my new home system, I went with an AMD Athlon 64 2.4GHZ because its has a FSB of 2000Ghz, and it out preforms my brothers True P4 3.2Ghz with 888FSB, and now he is actually looking into an AMD 64FX

Are there any motherboards that can handle those FSB speeds?
And more to the point, is there any software of games that really need that kind of power??

Yes, there are many boards that handle that. Its not about what software you use, but how you use it, its all about how fast you can get things done theses days.

mother board

any motherboard that is designed to take that processor, will handle the FSB
