The
LaCie SAFE Mobile Hard Drive with Encryption is a pretty interesting little device.
It's a portable USB 2.0 hard drive with hardware-based encryption and a built-in fingerprint reader.
Fingerprint readers have proven to be fairly easy to fool -- but not trivial for your average luggage thief.
The encryption utilized is
DES (56-bits key) or Triple-DES (128-bits key).
Most convenient for me is that the drive is powered via the USB connection. My current external hard drive has a huge power adapter that I have to drag around with it.
