Laptop Adapter

Hi everyone this is my first post, a nice place here.

Anyway I'm the proud owner of a laptop and my partner and I spend a lot of time traveling in the car going from place to place. I was just wondering whether there are special adapters that you can buy to plug into the cigarette lighter to power the laptop on long journeys?

Hey Julie,

If we've not said so already, welcome!

I know there is some kind of adaptor out there because a co-worker of mine uses her laptop from her van. She's got quite a set up with laptop, fax machine, the works! Let me see if I can find out what she's using!

Quick question... what type of laptop are you using??

Lyte

You don't necessarily need an adapter for your laptop, if you go into your local computer store you should be able to find a cigeratte adapter through which you can use a standard 3 pin plug. Actually that would only apply if you live in the UK. However I'm sure that other countries will have a similar sort of thing.

This is probably the best way to go about doing it! Therefore you are also free to use other electrical devices other than just your laptop. They work very well in my experience as well.

Is there any worry in "frying" your laptop for not using a "proper" car adaptor??

There is no worry of this. All laptops that I know of have a big black box on the cable. This is actually a transformer which reduces the current to the laptop therefore preventing the laptop from being fried.

cheap and easy.

just get a power inverter. its cheap, and there is no chance of you hurting any of your stuff. plus if you ever want to power somthing else you can.

I have a power inverter that I bought at Best Buy for like $ 40.00 and it works GREAT I can plug anything into it although I only plug my laptop into it. It also has a regular cigarette lighter port so I can chare my cell phone at the same time.
