Now who cares about Blu-Ray vs HDVD?

Check this link and tell me what you guys think. Dont you guys thinks its very cool?? Now we don't need to bring our hard drives anymore.

HVD = 1TB on a disc.

Yes, it would make backup very easy...Now you don't need to buy those externall hard drives to backup your files. We just have to burn and go.

It would make life with PC much easier.

Crazy stuff!

It would make backup easy.. but how much will it cost?

It may be cheaper to buy that capacity worth of DVD-R's :P

Thats crazy, I'm sure they are going to be very expensive and a burner will be expensive as well, but it seems like a very promising technology. I can't wait until they start becoming more popular.

It is nice that we are going to have some bigger disks. It is bad that they are creating a whole new upgrade path for all media.

It is also bad that it looks like the smaller drive will become the standard.

One might have said the same about Blu-ray/HD-DVD when they standardized DVD. HVD's are going to be extremely pricey to manufacture for a few years, so it's only natural that the companies attempt to standardize a technology that is cheap and that they know works.

I hope the hard drive prices don't skyrocket. Do you need to buy an adapter or anything fancy for the hard drive or can it just use an ATA cable? It doesn't seem like an ATA cable can transfer that fast, 20mbps, I think the speed was.

The current ATA standard is ATA-133, for "133 MBps".

A 1TB mp3/video player with good battery life would be sweet!

Would those holographic looking CD's be rewriteable.

Be kinda waste to use 300GB of space and never able to reuse it.

They use a laser to read and write, the same as any other burnable CD.

I don't know if the first generation will be rewritable.

One of the downsides of this technology is the cost: Will it be too prohibitive for the "casual" user to go after?

I'm sure it will be, at first.

I remember when CD burners were suddenly available for less than $1,000. 8)

Ahh, the memories, I remember when the first CD drives came out. They were advertised as "single-speed" (what would now be known as 1x) for around $199.

I do not think Blu-ray will catch on that quickly, unless it is available for a comparable cost to regular CDs soon after.

Hopefully the cost of blu-ray will be reasonable when it comes out.

It may eventually catch on, just like DVD's didn't exactly become mainstream right way.
