One External HardDrive and 2 Computers

Is it possible to have a USB splitter and have them connect to my two computers so I can transfer files? I don't even know if a USB splitter exisits but, if it does, would it work?

Thanks,
Jesse

Check this out.

IOGEAR GUN161 SmartLink File Transfer Cable (USB to USB)

SmartLink provides an ideal file transfer solution for home networking, especially for single-room home offices. It supports USB file transfer for PC-PC, Mac-Mac, or PC-Mac. The GUN161 offers a quick and easy solution for host-to-host communications at speeds equivalent to an Ethernet 10Base-T connection. Users can now network two or more Universal Serial Bus (USB) computers through standard Plug-n-Play technology without adding network cards. With its increasing popularity, USB is the obvious choice for networking PCs and Macs. Not only is the GUN161 easy to install and use, its transfer rate of up to 6 Mbps is significantly faster than that of alternative products, which only provide a transfer rate of up to 2 Mbps. SmartLink is less costly than other alternatives. Rather than requiring one unit for each PC or Mac, each SmartLink can be used between two PCs or Macs, thus minimizing the number of units required. The GUN161 takes advantage of existing USB ports, no power outlet or costly upgrades are required to use this home network solution. The unit is powered from the USB bus, so an external supply is not required. SmartLink is the Ideal Intra-Room Home Office Solution for networking and file synchronization.

Wow, that looks really cool. Not a bad price at all either, might just have to get it. Thanks!

Ack... I misread your query. ops: ops: ops:

I read that you were trying to connect two computers over USB.

I do not know if connecting two computers to one drive over USB works.

It seems to me that you might have file locking issues. I have not tried it. ops:

Hmm, good thing I didn't buy it yet. So having a USB spliter (if there is a thing) to have one go into one computer and another into my other computer and be able to add files from one to another might not work?

I think im doing what you are asking if it's possible. I have three computers which can connect to an external hard drive. It's a great way to store stuff that everyone can just get instantly. But it's not connected by a USB
