PCI Express vs AGP

What do you think of PCI Express vs AGP?

Is it worth upgrading?

PCI Express is definitely better than AGP (Accelerated Graphics Port), but I don't think that I would upgrade just to switch video card interfaces.

If you're looking at PCI Express, I am guessing that you must be a gamer. If you're a gamer, then you have to upgrade every 18-24 months anyway.

AGP 8x tops out at 2133 MB/s. PCI Express 16X offers almost double that bandwidth. AGP just can't keep up.

PCI Express 2.0 is coming out next year. If you can wait, you might be able to pay a lot for one of the new cards when they are first available. :p

If you are upgrading your motherboard now, then I would recommend also upgrading your video card now. It doesn't make much sense to invest in an AGP motherboard any more. There are a few motherboards which support both AGP and PCI Express, but I would make a clean break and upgrade to PCI Express now.

You can always sell your old motherboard and video card on eBay.
