Video Card Issues

I have an ATI Radeon 9600 and for some reason on certain games, there are "shafts" of texture that shoot out horizontally across the screne. I have heard that my video card is going out, but it has been close to a year since I heard that and my card is still doing the same thing. The strange thing is that on the games that more graphically intense such as Far Cry or DoomIII it is ok, but on other games like Half-Life 2 and Painkiller. I have updated my video drivers, done all the windows updates, updated my BIOS and updated the games in question. The only thing that I have not done is reformat my system (Which I am about to do). I am also thinking that my Power Supply might have something to do with it. I am planning on upgrading that in due time as well. Anybody know of any secrets that might help??

Did you figure this out? I have a ATI Radeon X1800 XL that only works on some games and not others.

What do you mean they shoot out across the screen?

Have you got the most updated drivers?
Older Radeons had issues that no one could work out and ATI dont make the best drivers either.
You can replace that card with a $150 video card these days and it will most likely perform better.

Update!!

I have reformatted and reinstalled and still have the issue, Reformatted AGAIN, but have not re-installed. I have made sure that I have updated the drivers and have also gotten the updated to the game ((HL2)). Other than that I am at alost. I am going to try to upgrade my PSU to see if that might help. **Crossing Fingers**

I am trying to see how I can describe "shooting across the scree"...........When some of the "actors" are standing in one spot, there is a small round shaft of "texture" that extends from the character across the scene to one side or the other. I am not too sure if this helps any, but I hope so.

All I can suggest is using the Radeon Omega drivers instead of the real ATI drivers.
Have you tried those?

I use these too
www.omegadrivers.com

I just noticed they all make nVidia drivers now.
NVidia make good drivers themselves so its not necessary to use the image, however for ATI i recommend it.
