Another net problem

hi, I am again having a problem with internet connectivity. This time however I may have some more information about the problem. I am using a router, and when I have my laptop, and my PC connected at the same time, my PC's internet regularly becomes inaccesible, despite the network connection still saying connected. I have had my laptop disconnected from the router for the last week, and my PC has experienced no problems. What could be causing this and how can I fix it?

Lots of options. Here are a few:

Layer One

Bad network card on one of the machines. A chattering NIC on one machine can affect traffic on another machine.

Layer Two

MAC address conflicts, but those only happen if someone has manually set a MAC address.

Layer Three

IP address conflicts.


So, check the MAC addresses and the IP addresses on your PC, laptop, and router. Then, swap in a known-good network card.
