I "edit" my own content and I think that's enough. It can be written by other people which save a huge amount of time, and then I can just tweak it for keyword-rich search engine optimisation, routing out grammatical and spelling errors, and making sure that my content doesn't look like an exact duplicate of anything else in the search engines eyes.

I would if I could afford to, but I'm just a n00b myself so I sort of take samples from the web wherever I'm not an expert in the subject. Ideas cannot be copyrighted! Only specific content can be, and once you put the ideas that you find into your own words, there's little or no risk of breaching intellectual property rights :p

Yes, you get what you pay for. Of course, the most rewarding sacrifice is your own time, but likewise, this can often be the most expensive price to pay. Next best alternative can be other people's time. It really depends on who you have doing the work though - some employees can be aweful and some can be great, as any employer will be well aware.

If I did purchase content then yes, I would certainly go back to those who are trusted as providing a good service. I'd also experiment with other service providers, but I wouldn't invest much money in these experiments!
It will be interesting to see what other people think about the advantages and disadvantages of paying for content.
