Directx and Hardware Acceleration on MS RDP

Hi,

Sorry if I keep asking these goofy questions.

I need to use a remote desktop with hardware acceleration on a win2k Terminal client. Only problem is, after fiddling around with it, I found that RDP does not support hardware acceleration. What do I do?

Instead of using a true remote desktop, could you do something like remote booting or remote installation? That would allow you to run a local copy of Microsoft Windows, while still having your OS images stored centrally. You would still need local hard drives, but you could re-image the machines regularly.

Or, you could use a remote desktop that is not RDP based. Do VNC or Graphon GoGlobal support hardware accelleration?

What is driving the requirement for RDP?

Uhh...It's a security system. My client wants to watch the live cameras and audio same as if he was sitting in his office, whereever he may be. The camera cards card he has use hardware acceleration so he needs it on the remote desktop too. The security software won't work on the remote desktop without hardware acceleration. I suggested VNC, but he's not going to fiddle with the server. My client says that I can jump on his laptop if I want but I can't touch the server.

It sounds like he's not going to get what he wants.

Tell him to send an angry letter to Bill Gates?

Far as not getting what he wants, maybe you should tell my client, cause I already told him I can do it. I didn't know RDP doesn't support hardware acceleration.

As for Mr. Gates, if he was standing next to me when I read the Teminal services help, he would have got more than a letter from me, more likely a hard knock on the head or something like that.

BTW, there is third party help for enabling hardware accelelation on Windows terminal clients. Comes from a company called 2X. But even that needs an application server to be installed on the win2k Terminal server, so.....

Again, Will - Thanks for the prompt and efficient replies. Wish I had found this forum sooner. LOL
