Diskless Network Booting For Windows Network

Hi,

I have tried out diskless booting using Knoppix. I just wanted to know if there's some way I can do it for a Windows network.
I did try it out on my win2k terminal server, but it gives some ARP or HAL errors. I simply don't have the time to do troubleshooting for this. So, is there some third party software which can implement a diskless node network for Windows?

Thanks in advance.

If you just want to implement a diskless node network for Microsoft Windows, use something like Simply RDP

Do your client PC's have PXE (Preboot eXecution Environment) support?

I spent 3 or 4 days without sleep getting all my boards to support PXE booting ( I use Realtek 8139 cards, but the motherboard wouldn't suppost PXE booting). Had to download it and add it to every board. So that went fine. Then I tried out a few of the network boot disk images such as wtware and a few others whose names I can't remember. It's a blur. Then Knoppix, Then WinXp Embedded with DHCP and a Remote Boot Manager and the boot file on the Win2k Terminal server. It starts booting, but then stops with a HAL error.

End of the day, I'm back to square one - Which is Knoppix. And my client's employees want to see Windows.

What is the exact HAL error?

Was there an ARP error also? If so, what was the exact ARP error?

What do you think of SimplyRDP?

I don't remember the exact words ( this was a bout a month back ), but it had something to with "incorrect path", and I reckon there was an ARP path also.

Haven't tried SimplyRDP. You think it'll work?

Well, maybe I will give it a shot. Though I seem to remember checking out the site. Or was it emboot? Oh crap. Never mind. I'll give it a shot. Let you know how it goes. Might take some time, though. I'm up to my neck with pending stuff right now. Thanks for the help, Will. Appreciated.

Got it going. Had to do it in a bit of a roundabout way, but I'll try to explain in short. Used the utilities that come with XP embedded and installed them on to a server. Made a boot image for win xp ( very small - around 120 MB of files and 85 MB RAM ) using Nlite and stored it onto the server and set it up with the XP Embedded remote boot manager on the server. The clients use PXE to boot off the network cards and ask for the file from the server. Boots up and loads darn fast and everythig's hunky dory.

Thank you for all the help and the suggestions.
