| Packet loss can be caused by a large numbers of things.
Let's say your packet is inside a network router, waiting to be transmitted. Suddenly, a truck hits the building, which kills building power, which turns off the router, which makes your packet disappear.
Or, let's say your packet is happily travelling down a network cable when it gets hit by interference from sun spots or flourescent lighting. You packet gets damaged and when what is left of your packet shows up at the destination, it is discarded as unrecognizable. |
