BIOS is hardware?

I thought the BIOS was the software that ran the motherboard. Someone to explain this to me better?

You are correct. BIOS is software that is written to an EEPROM (or a similar technology).

The system BIOS on a PC can execute without any operating system installed. In fact, one of the jobs of the system BIOS is to boot the operating system.

It's half-and-half. I placed the BIOS forum in the Hardware forum because most people tend to think of it that way.

BIOS is > Baisc Input Output System.

It is some thing like an Interface Between Operating System and your CPU.
It is the basic link through which your OP interacts with you Mother Board and Basic Hardware in your CPU

I hope it helped !

Thats where it should be. Its not software that you can install like other software, so its definitely hardware related

Yes you can, but what else can you do with it? Not much from the Windows environment.

I know just trying to be devil's advocate and make a point that it is software...not hardware.
