I had an A31p which outlived six hard drives.

Can you boot the machine?

Can you get into the BIOS settings?

What error code do you get? 0176? 0192? 0195? Something else?

IBM Thinkpad issue - BIOS upset after HDD was replaced

I'm unable to get the machine to BIOS and it won't boot past the BIOS password screen. The HDD Checksum error has disappeard after umpteen reboots but is all for nout because of the BIOS password lock. the checksum error is 0271.

0271 is a date and time error. It means that neither the date nor the time is set in the computer.

That's probably not the real problem.

There should be another error number, one that describes the password issue.

IBM is all about error codes.

It did at one point come up with a 0251 error and say that the system checksum was bad, but after another system restart it only displays the 0271 error. I have treid every password I can think of but am getting no were fast.

I just noticed the same problem on my old laptop (meantime I got new one)
The laptop wasn't in use for some month now, and when I turn on, 0271 error message appears, and ask for a password.
But there was NO password before! What can I do?

These issues are so common that I wrote How do I reset an IBM ThinkPad BIO Password?
