Windows Vista - Fonts that may be the standards for next decade

Here is something that I came across in my usual surf around the blogosphere. Stuart Brown at Modern Life had written a post on "New Vista Fonts & The Web".

Head over there to read nice commentary on the new fonts introduced: Cambria, Calibri, Candara, Consolas, Constantia, and Corbel.

These seem to come out as replacements for the present decade plus standard of Times New Roman, Arial, Georgia, Verdana, Tahoma, and Courier.

But they have not yet released those fonts to the public and hence I am not sure how well standardized it would turn out to be. What are your thoughts on this?

Nice find!

I think it's time for a change! Arial and Times New Roman have become a lil...*yawn*

Verdana has always been one of my favies. Calibri and Corbel are nice but frankly, I don't see much different between them and Verdana. They seem a little "taller" ... each character is more slender... is that it?

I am not very sure I can yet tell you the exact difference, Lyte. :P I do not own Vista and the fonts are not available openly. To tell about he exact difference, one would need to place them one over another and do a bit of scanning.

You may ask, if the difference are so subtle, then why go for those fonts. Well, that is the charm that typography has - it is these subtle differences that gives charecteristic to the fonts.

I still am a fan of Verdana. I just love this font. Next in line comes Tahoma. I used to like Arial compared to Times New Roman in the very begining, but now, both of them are not pleasing to my eyes now. :P

I've had a look at them when I used Office 2007. They're cool
