Dell Touchpad Malfunction

Hello, everyone newbie here, i have had my dell laptop for about a year now its a dell inspiron 1150, very well taken care off, never dirty always clean, no liquid damage! im having a very annoying problem with my touchpad on my laptop, what happens is that when i click with the left click it acts like the right click function, i have tried reinstalling drivers, checked to see if the settings were wrong, all were A ok, now one thing i discovered is when i set the right click function to do what the primary function click is suppose to do (meaning now that both clicks are set to act as primary click, the problems is gone, but now i don't have any secondary click, also on another note, when a separate usb mouse is connected it works just fine, its just the the touchpad thats giving me problems, sooo please if anyone knows anything plz, help this problem is annoying!!

Is your Dell still under a support contract? If anything goes wrong with my Latitude D800, Dell comes to my home, office, or client location to fix it.

In Control Panel, under Mouse Properties, is the box "Switch primary and secondary buttons" checked?

Hmmm... it feels like I'm missing something here...

  • Click the <Start> button
  • Click the <Control Panel> menu item
  • Click the <Mouse> icon
  • Under the <Buttons> tab, there should be a checkbox labeles "Switch primary and secondary buttons"
Do you see it now?

This won't be helpful long-term, but it may help us to determine if this is a hardware or software issue.

The fact that an external mouse works fine points us to a hardware cause -- but it's not definitive because the external mouse does use slightly different software.
