If you're on windows, download and install this:
http://www.lavalys.com/
There are demo versions on there, even the demos should tell you the hardware info you need (plus a LOT more).
So, you bought a computer without knowing what motherboard and chipset are in it? Let me guess, you don't know what RAM you've got? Harddrive? PSU? Fans? Not good, that should be a mistake you'll learn from. Next time you get a computer, consider building it yourself so that you know exactly what components are in it and they can be upgraded easily, also you'll save yourself a lot of money (about 50% in some cases).
Now, although you don't
have to install a driver, you should....for
everything. Windows XP is bad for this, it has generic built in drivers for almost everything, you should get the proper drivers from the manufacturer of your hardware, that way you'll be getting the most out of your hardware. Run everest, see what your hardware is and then go on the net to get proper drivers for your hardware, this includes things like cd drives and monitors, I think (but can't remember for sure) that Everest has a driver listing page in it, otherwise you can click on each device in windows device manager, anything that has a generic windows driver should be replaced if possible.
