Faulty RAM piece

This is just for information to others who had faced similar problesm.

Earlier I had a small RAM piece which used to give me a lot of BLUE screens while using XP saying some MEMORY_@!#!@#!@#!# (I don't remember it ) Just I read somewhere online and had the RAM replaced and its all fine now.

I just wanted to say that if something related to memory or paging errors are raised, then have your RAM checked before reinstalling OS.

Earlier I tried to re-imstall the OS several times as I thought that it was a software/OS problem.

Yes this will often happen if you use cheap RAM.

I now only use Kingston or other good brands of RAM and I find I have no problems with them.

Is there any way to know the make of the RAM from windows or through BIOS without having to open the computer's case and then check the printed name?

Yeah that isn't possible. I think a RAMTESTER software can tell you the make.

I had that software in Linux on CD, a Gentoo one. But I couldn't find the CD or else I would have confirmed.

I think its actually much easier to just look inside the computer case
