Graphics card doesnt show?

I got several used computers awhile ago, stripped them and built my own , the problem is, is that when I turn it on and try to do anything it wants the colour set up to 256, which I couldn't. So I ran a dxdiag and msinfo and it says Standard PCI Graphics Adapter..and what is really in there is a nvidia tnt2, and I got what I thought were drivers for it but it says it can't fight a Nivdia card. When I start the system the gfx card name reads out, so I'm sure it's in there. It won't let me play anything or do anything..Any helpful suggestions?

You appear to be doing everything right. Of course, that only proves that we're both missing something.

I couple of thoughts:

1. Is there a video card built onto the motherboard that could be conflicting? (An oddball question, but one that I should ask.)

2. Most likely, those aren't exactly the right drivers. What exactly does the screen tell you when you boot the PC?
