Rep Power: 0 | Intel or AMD? It's the microprocessors' time! Let me tell a bit of the two giant companies' stories. In the 1980's, AMD has signed with Intel to cooperate. But soon enough, AMD made clones of Intel processors and this caused Intel to cancel the agreement. Then, AMD sued Intel and it was successful. Intel had to share technology with AMD. In the early 1990's, Intel is leading while AMD makes cheaper Intel processor clones. Around year 2000, AMD finally came up with a working 64-bit processor and this makes AMD ahead of Intel. Luckily, in 2005, Intel started up to produce 65nm processors.
AMD's processor is designed for gaming and it heats up pretty fast. Nevertheless, I supported Intel from the day I bought my computer. |

Rep Power: 7 | Even though I have an Intel inside this here Dell I voted for AMD. My inside source (a relative working there) said they were the better than Intel. He said Intel really just had better marketing and hook up with partners.

Rep Power: 0 | I used to be a hater of Intel. In some past time I prefered IBM and Cyrix processors and after that AMD. But for 5 years now I'm a fan of Intel. more stable, more reliable and more standardized. Well, I'm not a big gamer and I prefer stability. |

Rep Power: 4 | AMD's tend to run "cooler" than Intel.

Rep Power: 0 | I voted for AMD, even though Intel seems to be the market leader in the processing world I am lead to believe that AMD are cheaper and apparently you get more for your money with AMD. If this is the case we might see AMD eating into Intels customers if their nt careful, hopefully the competition between these 2 will lower the prices overall for us the consumer.

Rep Power: 3 | I don't really know the pros and cons of each, but I'm told by many that they prefer AMD of late.

Rep Power: 0 | Honestly I like the AMD because of price. Although the Intel has alot of support background and company background. I do like both, although you can get alot better cpu with amd for much smaller price. |

Rep Power: 3 | Intel has been good for me for every comp I have had. They are known for being more stable but AMD has made a bunch of changes. Their X2 has gotten great reviews. My next comp will probly have an X2(still unsure) but I still like Intel a lot. It is just about what all you need in a comp. No need to have a fast gaming comp is you just surf the web. Luckily both AMD and Intel make a large variety of chips. I still lean toward intel though. Gotta stick with what got you where you are now.

Rep Power: 0 | I had to go with intel just for mere convenience. The assembly programming book I use at school focuses on intel instead of amd, so it worked out better for me having intel. |

Rep Power: 2 | This is a very competitive market. Intel has almost always been the leader until the last couple of years. There are huge atvantages to gamer's using AMD chips, as they already know. Having just built my own computer, I went for the best bang for the buck, which was Intel. However, I am NOT a gamer. I went for speed and dollar value. IMHO though, I believe AMD makes the superior chip, therefore winning my vote.
btw, high end AMD chips compared to high end Intel chips are not cheaper, they are more expensive. I know, because I just built my computer from the ground up and that was an important purchase for me. I had a budget and AMD didn't make the cut, simply because of the high cost. The equivilent Intel chip was way cheaper. The only downfall was the more expensive DDR2 ram, which I stacked in a couple 1 gig sticks.
Cool thread, DreamSync.

Rep Power: 0 | My processor is Intel Pentium III, 490 MHz. I know, it's out of date... (This laptop's been around for almost ten years, it's crashed twice) The processor I want though, would either be Intel Duo Core or Intel Centrino.

Why? Well, all the computers that I've owned have/had Intel CPUs inside them [well, apart from my Amiga 500]. And right now, Intel is really ahead of AMD right now with Core 2 Duo - it's one amazing architecure, but who knows what AMD may have up their sleeve? But certainly, most new PCs being made today have Intel Core 2 Duo or Pentium D, apart from the cheaper ones which run on AMD or Via.

Rep Power: 1 | 1st thing i wanna say is the AMD no more has fast heat up problem. It's price & extra gaming support makes it best buys. Intel products are like classics..the same old brand...so i go for AMD due to price
