Rep Power: 3 | Thats crazy, I'm sure they are going to be very expensive and a burner will be expensive as well, but it seems like a very promising technology. I can't wait until they start becoming more popular.

Rep Power: 3 | It is nice that we are going to have some bigger disks. It is bad that they are creating a whole new upgrade path for all media.
It is also bad that it looks like the smaller drive will become the standard. |

HVD's are going to be extremely pricey to manufacture for a few years, so it's only natural that the companies attempt to standardize a technology that is cheap and that they know works. |

Rep Power: 3 | I hope the hard drive prices don't skyrocket. Do you need to buy an adapter or anything fancy for the hard drive or can it just use an ATA cable? It doesn't seem like an ATA cable can transfer that fast, 20mbps, I think the speed was. |

Rep Power: 6 | The current ATA standard is ATA-133, for "133 MBps". |

Rep Power: 3 | Would those holographic looking CD's be rewriteable.
Be kinda waste to use 300GB of space and never able to reuse it. |

Rep Power: 6 | They use a laser to read and write, the same as any other burnable CD.
I don't know if the first generation will be rewritable. |

Rep Power: 3 | One of the downsides of this technology is the cost: Will it be too prohibitive for the "casual" user to go after? |

Rep Power: 6 | I'm sure it will be, at first.
I remember when CD burners were suddenly available for less than $1,000. 8) |

Rep Power: 3 | Ahh, the memories, I remember when the first CD drives came out. They were advertised as "single-speed" (what would now be known as 1x) for around $199. |

Rep Power: 3 | I do not think Blu-ray will catch on that quickly, unless it is available for a comparable cost to regular CDs soon after. |
