Rep Power: 2 | Question - Best amount of XP memory? While windows XP can handle up to 4 gigs of memory I was told that adding more than 2 gigs is a waste of time. Does anyone know why? |

Rep Power: 3 | XP only can "see" 3 gigs, it will not recognize anything over that, but I think there might be some "hacking" that can be done now to change that.

Rep Power: 2 | Are you sure? According to their web site it can see 4 gigs. But I thought I read somewhere that actually installing 4 gigs would hurt performance for some reason. Quote:
Windows NT 4.0: 4 GB
Windows 2000 Professional: 4 GB
Windows 2000 Standard Server: 4 GB
Windows 2000 Advanced Server: 8GB
Windows 2000 Datacenter Server: 32GB Windows XP Professional: 4 GB
Windows Server 2003 Web Edition: 2 GB
Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition: 4 GB
Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition: 32 GB
Windows Server 2003 Datacenter Edition: 64 GB

I think the operative word in the OulZac's post was "see." What an odd lil problem for XP users to have!

Rep Power: 2 | I am currently running 4 gigs of ddr2, which windows sees 3.25 gb of. I am running XP pro. I often wondered if there was a way to get it to read 4 true gigs, but 3.25 is all I get so far.
If you're going to ask why the hell I would even think of running 4 gigs?? It was a total mistake. I got stuck with 2 extra gigs of ram when I built my computer. My fault for double ordering, so with restocking fees, I simply decided to use them instead of trying to sell them back at a much lower price. |

Rep Power: 3 | To racknrail & others,
It's possible that your mother board may cause this "read the amount of memory. Some MB can only read so much memory.

Rep Power: 2 | If your BIOS is set up correctly ( which I'm assuming it is) then this tuning switch probably has something to do with it |
