Deleting Guest Account

How do I delete the guest account on my computer? It has limited access. Only option I can find is to turn it ON or OFF. I am the administrator.

Windows XP Home
IE6

Upon further checking, ON or OFF seem to be be the only option for guest account.

The Guest account can not be deleted because Windows XP uses the Guest account for Server Message Block (SMB) and Remote Procedure Call (RPC) permissions.

Microsoft does not recommend turning the Guest account off on Windows XP Home. You can review their full recommendations at Windows XP Baseline Security Checklists.

Thanks Will for the reply. I will leave the guest account turned ON. Lots of interesting info in the link you provided. My DELL XP Home computer is about 7 years old and came with a 19 GB HD. It is set up using FAT32. It has about 7 GB free space. Would you recommend that it now be converted to NTSF ?

I wouldn't do it, only because of the level of effort required.

To convert FAT32 to NTFS, you use the command convert c: /fs:ntfs.

However, before you do that -- you should back up your data well enough that you can restore it if something goes wrong with the conversion process.

I wrote this up in depth in the FAQ Answer How do I convert FAT32 to NTFS?

Windows user accounts are insecure anyway, although I think they've made a few improvements with XP?
